Some things are worth slowing down for.
Fifteen years ago, I left the pace of Miami for the quieter rhythms of North Carolina — and somewhere between the move and the clay, Muddy Heart was born.
I'm Meli, the one-woman studio behind every piece you see here. My husband Steve and our furbaby Phoebe keep me company in my Cary, NC studio, where I spend my days handforming ceramics the way I believe they should be made: slowly, intentionally, and with care that outlasts the trend cycle.
Made by Hand. Made to Last.
Every mug, bowl, vase, and bell that leaves this studio passes through my hands — shaped, glazed, and fired one piece at a time. There are no shortcuts, no assembly lines, and no two pieces that are exactly alike. That's not a flaw. That's the point.
I work in 12 neutral, earthy tones chosen specifically to disappear into your home rather than compete with it. Whether your space leans Japandi, Warm Minimalist, or simply calm, Muddy Heart pieces are designed to belong there quietly.
My design inspiration comes from vintage objects, historical pottery, modern design and my worldly travels . My pieces are unique, with a minimal aesthetic and utilitarian function , My intent behind each design is Timeless Beauty + Function
Why Ceramics?
I started making ceramics because I needed something real — something that required presence, patience, and my actual hands. What I didn't expect was how much that need would resonate with other people.
The customers who find Muddy Heart are usually looking for the same thing I was: a home that feels intentional. Objects that carry meaning. A slower kind of beautiful.
That's what I make. That's what I'm here for.
Handmade in Cary, NC🇺🇸
Woman-owned. Made to order. Sustainably crafted.
Every piece is made to order in my North Carolina studio — which means it's made for you, not a warehouse shelf. Please allow a few weeks for creation; good things take time.
I am proud to create with sustainability practices at the core of my small business, I create the pieces that my customers request with their favorite colors and specifications, and with this practice we all avoid unnecessary consumption of natural materials and resources. It is a beautiful slow process, meant to be loved and treasured and meant to be gentle to the earth that gives the beautiful material my work is born from.
I can't wait to create something truly unique just for you!, thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my process!
